Notes: From the moment I met the Kersten family, Denise and Andrew, I knew this film was going to have a comedic element to it along with the Maui love. Andrew’s father’s bluntness and sarcasm was rather refreshing. At first it caught me off guard as I sat with them in a pre-production meeting the day before their wedding. It soon fired up my Viennese roots, which has its own brand of sarcastic humor (Wiener Schmäh), akin to Seinfeldian jewish humor. It was a fun meeting to say the least.
While Denise was reserved and quiet at first, just as expressed in by people in the film, her authenticity shone through and she was such a delight to chat with. Andrew too had a depth to him that got me excited to create their film.
In the end, their Maui love really came to life in the edit, as we parsed out the most meaningful narrative and made sure the family’s essence was preserved and highlighted. We believe we really showed this family and group the way they are and the love the have for one another.
It was such a delight and we are so grateful to have had the chance to work with them, as well as MaryAnn at the Grand Wailea.
I just saw our feature video it’s so wonderful. Andrew and I love it. You captured the day so beautifully it gets me emotional every time I watch it. Thank you for all your hard work!
